Every construction project starts with a set of plans, so the set of skills needed to read and understand plans covered in these lessons becomes key to discovering how to build.
If you can navigate a set of plans, identify different views, interpret building notes, symbols, and reference dimensions, an entire world of information becomes available to you on how things are put together. This single skill can by itself make you more valuable on a job site.
This course introduces plans and helps you navigate through these different elements and presents the basics of this whole language of building that can be found in any set of plans.
The math portion of this course uses plan-based problems to give students practice in calculating math functions with fractions as well as understanding linear, squared, and cubic calculations and conversions. Examples of problems are given that require material estimation based on plan reading skills.
