This course follows the process of painting from the initial setup stages of the site protection to the final finish coats of paint applied with brushes and rollers. Surface prep is covered with spackling, sanding, and caulking tools, materials, and techniques. Specifics about paint as a material are explained and oil and water-based paints will be compared to include the pros and cons of each. Sheens and other terms used to identify paint will be discussed.

Through this course, students will gain an understanding of the purpose and the time-saving benefits of taping and masking as prep for painting.  They will be introduced to various materials, tools, techniques, and best practices used when taping and masking

Tools for paint application to include brushes and rollers will be covered with details on different parts and types, nap lengths, roller sizes, and bristle materials, and brush head configurations. Information about the care of brushes to include cleaning, handling, and storage will be taught with a focus on best practice for longevity and long-term performance of the tool. 

Various techniques used with brushes and rollers will be explained to include prepping the tool for paint, loading the tool, holding the tool properly, unloading the paint on a surface, spreading the paint for adequate coverage and smoothing the paint to a finished state
